These institutions are four year military schools funded by the US Government. Upon graduation from any of these schools you owe service in the branch of the military the school represents. These schools have very competitive admissions, and small class sizes. Make sure to take a look at the test scores and GPA that each academy is looking for.

U.S Coast Guard Academy
This is the only academy that does not need a congressional appointment. Admissions is determined just like any other college. This school prepares you to graduate as an officer in the Coast Guard. Upon graduation you work for the Coast Guard for 5 years. This school is located on the water in New London, Connecticut. Ms. Mueller's brother is a 1st class student there currently, so if you are interested in finding out more information, please ask her!
The U.S Air Force Academy
Located in Colorado, this academy requires a congressional nomination to apply. These nominations need to be initiated by by October. Final nominations must be received by the Academy by January. This is a lengthy process and should be started ASAP if you are interested in attending.

Located in Maryland this academy is a part of the U.S Navy. This academy requires a nomination as well. Steps for the application process can be found here:

U.S Military Academy- West Point ( Army)

Opportunities for Interested Juniors
If you are a junior, many of these academies offer you the opportunity to experience what academy life is like through a summer program. Additionally, attending a summer program can look good for your application and help you in the acceptance process.
